Sweat the small stuff

Do you notice anything strange about this AP picture?

Here, Al Gore is urging Congress to press ahead with a bill bringing climate change to the top of the political agenda.

But, wait! What is that on the desk in front of the Nobel Peace Prize laureate? Two plastic bottles! Plastic bottles – a symbol of waste, excess and environmental travesty in our country. Some are saying that the former VP never drank from the bottles during his over two-hour testimony, but this photo illustrates the importance of paying attention to even the smallest of details in your communications campaigns.

Don’t get me wrong – I believe Al Gore’s concern about the environment to be nothing short of heroic. But no one wants to have their moment of glory categorized as, “Do as I say, not as I do.” Next time, remember the BPA-free sports bottle or, better yet, a tall glass of water fresh-from-the-tap.
